Self-Teaching a Computer Science Degree

I am 17 and I am too ambitious.

In March 2022 I moved to Germany to study here at the uni later. Long story short, I can start my degree in 2024 (I need to learn German and do some preparatory studies before).

My toxic trait is that I want to be better than everyone around me, but life is a bitch, and it made me stay behind my peers in terms of academics. Am I frustrated? I was.

I am a vast studying fan. I love learning, I loved school, and I love getting high marks. Again, it makes me feel superior. Since 2020 I’ve been sometimes watching lectures on MIT Open Courseware, Harvard’s page etc, just for the sake of watching.

A week ago I’ve made a decision: I am doing a Computer Science degree on my own.

thanks, Internet Made Coder!!!

That means that I am going to take all the courses that a usual CS student would take, and will try to pass them. The syllabus that I will follow is made by Open Source Society University (OSSU), and is available online. It contains classes from many universities, that are open-sourced.

I have not declared the exact timing yet, since I don’t know how much time I will be able to devote. For now, I marked a 31-day sprint, and my plan is to accomplish three introduction courses (precalculus and 2 computer science intros) by the end of it.

I think it’ll be useful to share my journey here, since that way I can find a community that is interested in the same things. Also, I will have proof that I actually do this, since obviously, nobody will give me a diploma in the end.

I am open to any recommendations from you! Feel free to share your thoughts, advice and emotions.

Let the journey begin!
